11/2 The night before the election

We are excited to say that this is a really close race. We are most humbled and encouraged by all of the support we have received. While we have not been to personally make contact with everyone in the district- we have picked up on an undercurrent of people who want a change with the park board leadership. Nowhere is this seen more than in District #3, where there is a lack of communication, leadership and representation.

District 3 is made up of many neighborhoods all unique in their own right and each one deserves to be heard and represented.

Its time for change.

Its time to be serious about fixing plank road- not just closing it indefinitely

Its time to get the park finished 4 years after the fact for the kids in the East Phillips neighborhood.

Its time to work with Cedar Riverside community and enhance the park in that neighborhood.

11/1 To the cycling community We will finally have a rider on the Park Board. We need to protect our trails, parkways and commuter routes. We need a voice on the board when design and planning sessions take place.

As the #2 cycling community in the Nation- we need someone to protect out interests and make sure our routes are safe to ride

As park board commissioner, I will give Cedar Riverside and the East African community the respect they deserve.

Park Board Candidate Michael Wendorf Will Spend Honeymoon Campaigning for Parks

Independent, sustainable parks are more important to my fiancé and me than a honeymoon right now.

MINNEAPOLIS - Candidate for Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board Commissioner District 3 Michael Wendorf is getting married on August 7th. He and his fiancé intend to spend their honeymoon campaigning for Parks. Our Park System is what makes Minneapolis a great city. There is nothing more important I can do for my community than work for strong, independent and sustainable parks.

An avid park user, Mike is running for Park Board for four simple reasons: to serve his community, to sustain the parks for future generations, to support the terrific work of staff and volunteers in the parks, and to secure the financial future of the system in new and innovate ways.

Mike is a commercial real estate professional, and understands the value of our public parks to our neighborhoods, our schools and even our businesses. As Mike sees it, part of the reason our property values have held steady more than other major cities that are seeing dramatic drops, is the timeless value in our park system.

The Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board is at a crossroads. During this period of sustained economic crisis, it will be tempting to make decisions for short-term gain that could sacrifice the long-term well-being of the park system. I won’t let that happen.

The Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board is made up of nine members; six representing geographic districts and three at large. Mike is running to represent district 3 which includes part of Downtown, Cedar Riverside, Seward, Longfellow, Cooper, Phillips, Ventura Village, Central, Corcoran, Powderhorn Park and the northern edge of Howe, all along the west bank of the Mississippi River from the Falls of St. Anthony to 38th Street.

The Commissioners come from a variety of professional backgrounds – a former legislative staffer, a former Park Superintendent, a small business owner, an attorney, a non-profit executive, a former City Council Member. My business and corporate real estate background will be a very valuable addition to the mix of experience and expertise on the board, said Wendorf. The fact is, we are in the midst of an economic and environmental crisis. Now is the time for professional leadership on the board, not just well-intentioned activists.

As for his fiancé? I love Mike. We love Minneapolis and we love its parks. I can think of no better way to show my commitment than to spend our honeymoon campaigning. I believe in this 100%. I am his campaign manager and in one week, I’ll be his wife.

Mike and Erin are asking their wedding guests for contributions to his Park Board campaign. We have a toaster, they explained. We don’t have the leadership we need to sustain our parks.
